Tech issues

Here is an archive of technical issues that I find on radio stations, and TV channels, as well as summaries and explanations. Every single one that I find will be on here, from barely noticeable to severe issues. All of these are recorded via Samsung screen recorder on globalplayer.com catch up, or a catch up service like iPlayer for example. This is NOT a list of every single technical problem, only ones that I happen to see. This list is in order of when I publish it here.

Some jargon:

TOH = Top of the hour, a custom instrumental that plays at the hour after the ads.

Bed = A (sometimes looping) instrumental that plays under the presenter. this can be used before links, between songs, etc.

Link = When the presenter 'links' from the music to the ads.

Jingle = A very short tune for the station that plays between songs.

Saturday 16th May 2026 at 14:36 - Capital Scotland

2 Capital jingles played instead of one.

Tuesday 9th June 2026 at 16:00/16:01 - Capital Scotland

After the Cash Call TOH, another top of the hour played. It was faded down and a song played like usual.

Thursday 16th July 2026 at 22:00 - Capital Scotland

The TOH played late, but the presenter voice and song were on time, causing them to clash together. The presenter talked over the start of the TOH, and the song played over the end of it. This was caused by an automation error.

Sunday 19th July 2026 at 11:00/11:01 - Capital Scotland

The weather bed played, but the weather sponsor played late. This caused the pre-recorded weather to overlap with it. A few seconds later the Capital breakfast promo overlapped with the TOH. It then continued as normal.

Monday 11th May 2026 at 07:30 - BBC Radio 1

Radio 1 was late to newsbeat, so the jingle didn't finish and was interrupted by newsbeat

Monday 10th July 2026 at 18:00 - BBC News (UK)

A correspondent could not hear the presenter or gallery, so he said nothing. They just moved on to the next headline.

Blooper 7

Monday 4th July 2026 at 01:01 - BBC News

Not a tech issue but is a funny blooper. A correspondent for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift getting married at Madison Square Gardens was attacked by a storm with extreme rain and wind. The tripod fell and he couldn't do it. When we cut back to the studio, the presenter is laughing.

Thursday 30th April 2026 at 8:49 - Capital Scotland

Breakfast show presenters do a link to the ads, but there are no ads and it goes silent. The emergency tape (I think) goes off and 2 seconds later the song (In this case Myles Smith) is interrupted by a news jingle, and then cut back into the song. They played purely songs, there were no ads or presenters talking until around 8:58 when the actual news started, and then at 9:00 the summertime ball tickets went on sale.

Friday 14th August 2026 at 4:00 - Capital

The TOH plays but with no presenter. There is silence after the TOH and then a song cuts in. The recording here is from the UK feed but the issue slightly varies across feeds. See all recordings here.

Sunday 16th August 2026 at 16:00 - Heart Scotland

At the start of the Big Top 40, the ads kept playing over the intro even though it had started. Just after Will Manning started to talk, it cut him off and played the ads until the end of the ads when it crashed back into the feed. This recording is from Heart Glasgow but on Heart Edinburgh, it was the same thing but with different ads. The show wasn't cut off, the ads just played over the song.

Tuesday 18th August 2026 at 22:00 - Heart Teesside

At the start of Ben Atkinsons show, his voice played but the TOH did not. The TOH eventually played when the song had already started. It was cut off and the show continued as usual.

Tech Issue 12 (Heart 90s).wav

Saturday 15th August 2026 at 8:00 - Heart 90s

At the start of Heart 90s Saturday breakfast (a pre-recorded show), two different TOHs played at the same time, with no presenter talking over it. When one of the TOHs ended, the presenter's VT finally played. As soon as it finished, it went straight into the song.

Friday 21st August 2026 at 11:00 - Radio X 90s

The news bed played, but there was no presenter speaking until the weather, which was more than a minute later.

Wednesday 2nd September 2026 at 12:39 - Capital Scotland

After the jingle, a ramp played with no presenter for about 4 seconds until it got faded down and the ads played.l
